OCCD = Obsessive Car Cleaning Disorder!

I took the opportunity this morning to test out some new products on the glass of the girlfriend's 2010 Vauxhall Meriva. Windscreens are probably the hardest thing to get clean on most cars and this was no exception!

The exterior of the windscreen takes the brunt of inclement weather, bugs and road grime thrown up by other vehicles. The interior takes the brunt of human moisture, smoke, vape, road pollutants via your air intakes and the chemicals that are given off from your interior plastics etc. It's no wonder that windscreens are super hard to keep clean!

First to be tested was a good wash with Aldi's Magnum washing up liquid and a soft Carpro Boa microfiber towel The Magnum liquid cleans dishes well but didn't seem to have any affect on the greasy surface of the windscreen!

Second up was a magic eraser. I used this with both Meguairs All Purpose Cleaner and Aldi's Power Force window and glass cleaner (which I find to be great for the windows and doors in our conservatory). Surprisingly the glass was still left quite greasy with visible smearing.

Next up was a blast with Gyeon Q2M Preparation which is a an oil and polish remover. This was the most effective treatment but strangely enough it seemed that the various microfiber towels that I used were struggling to actually pick up all of the grease.

The next option was to try crumpled paper and kitchen towel to pick up the grease from the windscreen. This turned out to be quite effective in tandem with the Q2M. I then followed this with an application of Meguairs all purpose cleaner (it's in the Stardrop bottle!) and this helped to further reduce the smears and streaks.

A final buff with a Poorboys mega plush microfiber towel left me with a nice shiny smear free windscreen ... job done!
