Light scratch removal on my Meriva

I fancied a little session of machine polishing this morning so decided to have a crack at removing the scratches on the rear passenger side door of my Meriva. There were some light scratches around the door handle which is quite common ...

The major scratches were running along the lower part of the door ...

I wanted to see what results I could achieve just by using Carpro Essence and a green Hexlogic pad. I was in an experimental mood so jumped straight in with a quick hand wash of just the door itself using a soft mitt, warm water and a splash of Fairy Liquid!! I was looking to totally degrease the panel so in this case I thought 'why not'. I then applied a tar remover, rinsed, applied an iron fallout remover, rinsed, applied a degreaser, rinsed and then wiped over with Gyeon Q2M Prep.

This is how it all looked at super speed ...

This was my first attempt at using the hyperlapse feature on my old S7 Edge so future videos should be better quality.

I did the panel in 3 sections and then concentrated on the areas that had the heaviest scratches. To be honest I should have swung the car around as I was working in direct sunlight but it was only a 'test' session so I wasn't too bothered about working in the morning sunshine.

I finished off with a quick wipe down with the Gyeon Q2M Prep and a coat of Carpro Reload. I was quite happy with the results but the deeper scratches needed a heavier compound so I'll crack on with some more testing in the near future.

The marks around the door handle were pretty much polished out ...

The deeper and more visible marks lower down on the rear of the door were still visible but it was a great improvement ...

Call me a weirdo but it was a great way to spend a couple of hours out in the morning sunshine playing around with the DA polisher ...

Happy detailing - Dave
